Professional lawn care companies and grounds maintenance crews often need a wide-area walk-behind lawnmowers to clear areas that a large riding lawnmower simply can’t cut efficiently. In a scenario like this, you can always turn to the Cub Cadet CC 600.

This is a truly nimble wide area walk behind lawnmower with a powerful self-propulsion system. It’s powered by 224 cc Cub Cadet OHV gasoline engine that drives the cutting blades as well as the powering the “My Speed” rear-wheel-drive system. This lets you variably adjust the speed of the self-propulsion system to the operator’s natural walking gait.

The 28-inch cutting deck has two blades that work in tandem to mulch the grass being harvested. As a true 3-in-1 wide-area lawnmower, you can also set the Cub Cadet CC 600 up to bag the clippings. This is a great way to prevent thatch buildup. It also spares you having to send additional personnel in after cutting the grass to blow out any spent clippings. The bagger has a large capacity of 2.25 bushels.

The cutting deck also has a high pressure “Smart Jet” deck washing system. This is a very nice feature for clearing away grass clippings and organic material to help prevent corrosion issues and ensure peak performance of the dual cutting blades.

The Cub Cadet CC 600’s 28-inch cutting deck can be adjusted from as low as 1.25-inches to as high as 3.75-inches. It also has a pair of front casters instead of static wheels which make this wide-area mower very nimble. This is really nice if you need to maintain a property with a lot of trees, signage, or other landscaping features.

The 224 cc Cub Cadet OHV gasoline engine has an electric “Sure Start” ignition system, which has a reputation for being very reliable. There’s also a recoil backup that pulls smoothly for times when an electric charge might not be available.

It’s also worth noting that Cub Cadet backs the CC 600 with a three-year warranty. This is a nice statement from the manufacturer about the overall build quality.

Ease of Use

The Cub Cadet CC 600 was designed to be easy to use, which is important in a commercial-grade wide-area walk-behind lawnmower for professional use. The My Speed self-propulsion system gives you the ability to adjust the speed to comfortably match the operator. Yet you can quickly adjust it when you need to slow down around trees and landscaping features. This is really nice for maintaining the grass around signage and curved retaining walls.

The electric Sure Start is also very nice. It has a reputation for being reliable, often starting on the first try nearly every time. If a charge isn’t readily available for some reason, the recoil back up pulls smoothly.

Cut Quality & Options

The Cub Cadet CC 600 is a true 3-in-1 wide area, a self-propelled lawnmower. The dual cutting blades do a good job of harvesting grass clippings for the side discharge. Though when you set it up as a mulcher you get a near puree of grass clippings.

It’s also worth noting that the fine cut of either of these modes lets you truly pack a lot of condensed grass clippings in the large 2.5-bushel bagger. Chances are you will need to refuel the 1.3-quart fuel tank before the bagger even gets full!

The nimbleness of the front casters and My Speed self-propulsion system make it easy to work around really complicated landscaping features. It’s especially helpful if you need to maintain a property with a lot of signage or trees.

The 28-inch dual cutting blade deck can be adjusted as high as 3.75 inches or as low as 1.25-inches. It lets you carefully manicure different areas with a simple lever.

Maintenance

The Cub Cadet CC 600 will need all the usual maintenance tasks of a gasoline-powered lawnmower. Though Cub Cadet put extra effort into engineering it to be easy to access most common maintenance areas.

The Smart Jet high-pressure deck washing system is especially nice for quickly clearing away trapped grass clippings and other organic debris. Just be sure to give it a few minutes to really get things sparkling clean under the 28-inch cutting deck. Using it diligently will go a long way toward preventing long-term corrosion issues.

Safety Features

The Cub Cadet CC 600 has all the standard safety features you expect to find on a wide area, a self-propelled lawnmower. The My Speed variable self-propulsion system and the nimble front casters also help you to quickly avoid any previously unforeseen obstacles hiding in the grass.

Special Features

The electric Sure Start ignition system with recoil backup has a reputation for being very reliable. It works in tandem with an automatic choke system to help prevent accidental flooding.

The My Speed self-propulsion system is also a nice feature for operator comfort and ease of use.

Cost-Effectiveness

For the most part, the Cub Cadet CC 600 is very cost-effective. The 3-in-1 side discharge, mulcher or bagger lets you set the cut quality to the property you are maintaining. Though if there is a complaint it’s that the 1.3-quart fuel tank is a little bit small. It might mean more frequent refueling stops over the course of a long mowing session.
